13 Healthy Dips for Superbowl Sunday!

This Sunday I plan to watch the best commercials of the year, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, hang out with my friends, and enjoy some delicious healthy food. Someone mentioned there was a football game on too? Kidding, of course. Super Bowl Sunday is always a reason to celebrate and gather with friends whether you’re a sports fan or not.

My favorite part of Super Bowl Sunday is the delicious snacks I plan to make and taste. When I think of typical Super Bowl snacks, I picture gooey cheese, greasy chips, crockpots of chili and pulled pork, and chicken wings layered in a variety of sauces. But I also think of dips. Dips are the ultimate appetizer food and definitely a staple at every gathering. They’re easy to transport and you can pair them with a variety of items from veggies to crackers. To help make your Super Bowl Sunday a little bit easier on your digestive system, I’ve put together some of my favorite healthy sweet and savory dip recipes from around the web. No matter which team you’re cheering for, your party will definitely be a touchdown!

But seriously...go HAWKS! ::)

Savory Dips

Creamy Vegan Spinach Artichoke Dip

A healthy take on an old classic, the white beans in this dip give it the creaminess you’re craving on Super Bowl Sunday without the unhealthy fats that typically accompany creamy dips. The addition of Italian herbs and lemon add just enough zest. You’ll be sure to have some happy vegans in the crowd!

Sweet Potato Hummus

Bulk up on beta-carotene with this spicy, swweet and salty hummus. Serve with whole-wheat pita, crackers, or veggies. Let’s be honest, you can never have too many sweet potatoes.

Ranch Greek Yogurt Dip

Remember when you were a kid and the only dressing you liked was ranch? Well, see ya later Hidden Valley. This dip is quick and easy to make, has only seven ingredients, and will please the pickiest of eaters at your soiree.

Vegan Mexican Layer Dip

Mexican dip is a personal favorite of mine. This one is made healthier by omitting the sour cream and cream cheese layer and creating a cheese sauce with nutritional yeast and potatoes.

Black Bean & Corn Salsa

This is my go-to appetizer when I’m looking for a healthy dish. When I made it for this post, I put it in an avocado but I would even suggest chopping up the avocado and putting it in the salsa. I like to serve this with gluten-free black bean tortilla chips.

Beet Hummus

I love beets, but I’d never seen beet hummus until I stumbled upon this recipe.  Not only will this dip win “best dressed” for it’s beautiful color, but with the combo of beets, garlic, lemon, and tahini, it could also win the healthiest hummus ever award. I love how it is served with sweet potato chips in this post.

Cannellini Garlic Ricotta Dip

We had to get cheese in here somewhere! Rest assured that the decadence of the cheese is offset by the healthy cannellini beans. Combining these two delicious ingredients leaves you with a creamy, yet healthy, appetizer. Serve with pita, crackers, or veggies.

Asparagus Guacamole

Don’t you worry; the avocado still makes an appearance here. But by combining the asparagus with the avocado you end up with a slightly healthier version of an all-time favorite. It’s also a great way to add in some greens.

Raw Cashew Dip

There’s no way you can fumble with this dip. This is truly a feel-good dip. Not only is it healthy, but it’s also party worthy (and another recipe that will please all of the vegans and raw food fanatics at your party). Serve with fresh veggies.

Tabbouleh

This Middle Eastern staple always makes an appearance at my festivities.  Made hearty with bulgur wheat, this dip has great zest from the lemon and healthy fats from olive oil. Serve with whole grain pita.

Sweet Dips

Peanut Butter Honey Yogurt Dip

This is the easiest dip you will ever make, and it will satisfy your sweet tooth in the healthiest way. Serve with apple slices or other fresh fruit.

Healthy Chocolate Chip Cookie Pota'Dough Dip

Calling all cookie dough lovers, and let’s be honest, who isn’t? I’ve found myself dipping a spoon into the bowl of this guilt-free dough countless times. It is vegan, gluten free, bean-free, and soy-free to boot!

Snickerdoodle Dessert Hummus

Hummus for dessert – I love this. The almond butter, chickpeas, and maple syrup combined with the spice of cinnamon make this dip a must for snickerdoodle lovers. Serve with fresh fruit, graham crackers, or dark chocolate.
