Your Children's Health & Wellness-Does It Feel Like An Uphill Battle?
OK, this is one for the mama's out there! Feeling raw and a little bit lonely in the world of motherhood today so I'm wondering if anybody can relate to some of this: "But mom, I'm the ONLY one that doesn't get to (fill in the blank here)!!". 1. This is a constant complaint in my house: my younger boy came home yesterday telling me (yet again) that he's the best eater because nobody else that sits at his big school lunch table has to eat vegetables. According to him, there's only one other child who is packed veggies in his lunch every day. The. Only. One! Note: if this is actually true, it brings up a lot of other thoughts I have about the state of our children's health but I'll leave that for another time.
2. The next constant complaint: EVERYBODY gets more online time than I do (says my 7th grader) and EVERYONE has a phone (in 5th grade).
Any of this sound familiar? I feel strongly about my kids being healthy and eating enough fruit and veg every single day, and that they have limited screen time. Period. (Anybody see Screenagers last night?!).
But it's so hard. Honestly, sometimes I do feel like I'm the only mom pushing for this. Like I'm the bad guy. Like I'm out of touch. Or, that one day my kids just might really rebel against me. I try to find the balance in there...to let them be kids and eat junk food at times, to buy them a hot dog on occasion at the baseball game, to give them extra hours playing video games on the weekends. But still! It's an uphill battle.
One I'm willing to fight...and, not be the most popular with my kids all the time--or possibly their friends. It's important to me. And I'm not here to be their best friend. I'm here to be their guide. To give them the skills to operate in the big, wide world on their own and be able to make good decisions.
What about you? Do you have anything you feel lonely with in motherhood?
Would love to hear from you. Let's be the village we all talk about. :)
